Another example of a teen driving too fast. A young man crashed into a hydro box in Burlington last night narrowly escaping injuries. He’s lucky, but the crash comes just days after two deadly collisions involving teenagers. Police say a 17 year old driver ran a stop sign and a red light before slamming into another car on Drury lane and Prospect street last night. He had three other teens with him at the time, luckily no one was seriously hurt.

The same can’t be said for 5 other young people who lost their lives over this last week due to dangerous speeding. Two Milton teenagers were killed in a crash on James Snow Parkway and three young people in North York were pronounced dead after the driver lost control.

Transport Canada says drivers between the ages of 16 and 24 are at the highest risk of being killed in a car crash. According to their most recent statistics, in 2009 40% of speeding drivers involved in fatal crashes were in that same age group, they were young drivers.

Looking at other alternatives, here in Ontario many trucks are equipped with devices that limit their speed to 110 km an hour, but they’re not on many cars. Some high performance vehicles have limiters, but they’re designed to top out at closer to 200 km an hour.
