Two Niagara teens are getting some major help as they prepare for university, a $100 000 scholarship known as the Loran award.
18-year-old Gracie Lowes is one of 31 winners of the prestigious Loran scholarship. The Ridley College student beat out 81 finalists in Toronto earlier this month. The scholarship is worth $100 000 and is spread out over 4 years and it’s based on character, service and leadership. Lowes maintains a 90 average and while academics are important the foundation also places emphasis on what students do outside of the classroom.
17-year-old Aiden Harold is the first student at Welland’s Notre Dame College school in over 25 years to be named a Loran scholar.
The Loran scholarship was launched in 1988 by a York university professor and is now supported by more than 500 donors, including the McCall MacBain Foundation.
