Cancer spike predicted
Cases of cancer around the world are expected to spike more than 75% in less than two decades.
Researchers looked at the number of global cancer cases in 2008, and combined that with information on population size and income expected in 20-30.
Population growth and aging explain part of the increase, but researchers find at least one-fifth of new cancer cases will be due to preventable factors, like bad diet and exercise habits.
Cancer rates in some of the world’s poorest countries could climb more than 90%.
