Niagara police have arrested and charged two men with drug trafficking offences following a short foot chase in St. Catharines.

Police began an investigation in December into the sale of illegal drugs in the area of Geneva Street and Queenston Street.

The two accused men were arrested Wednesday around 11:55 a.m. when officers saw them walking in the previously mentioned area.

The officers formed reasonable grounds to believe the pair were actively engaged in selling illegal drugs and tried to arrest them.

The suspects ran in opposite directions as the officers approached, resulting in two brief foot chases.
