Patients can expect longer waits and temporary delays at Joseph Brant Hospital (JBH) in Burlington over the coming weeks as staff navigate the rollout of a massive new digital health platform.

The hospital says patients may also notice changes in how information is collected, documented and shared during their care experience.

On Sunday, JBH officially launched Dovetale, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s Epic digital health information system.

The hospital says this marks a major milestone in the hospital’s digital transformation, with a new system designed to better connect health information and care teams.

For healthcare providers, Dovetale is intended to support access to more complete and consistent patient information, improve communication between care teams and reduce reliance on paper records.

JBH says patients will also be able to use MyDovetale, a secure online patient portal that lets them view their appointments and available health information from a computer, smartphone or tablet.

“Going live is a significant achievement, but it is also the beginning of a period of adjustment,” said Eric Vandewall, president and CEO of JBH.

“Our teams have prepared extensively for this transition and now they need time to become comfortable working in a new environment. We ask for continued patience and understanding from our community as we work through that adjustment together.”

More information about Project Harmony and what to expect during go-live is available on JBH’s website.
