Halton police have arrested an Etobicoke man they say has been portraying himself as an immigration lawyer and legal expert.

Authorities say the alleged fraudster, Kishorbhai Patel, also known as Kishor Patel, portrayed himself as a lawyer and legal expert operating under the names ProLaw Canada Corporation LLP and Canadian International Business Corporation.

Investigators have determined that Patel is not licensed to practice law.

According to officers, between October 2025 and January 2026, victims seeking help with work permits and permanent residency applications sent multiple payments to Patel.

On Oct. 8, the 55 year old was arrested in Oakville.

Patel has since been charged with one count of fraud over $5,000.

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation, or who believes they may be a victim, is asked to contact police at 905-825-4777, ext. 8742.

Halton police are encouraging anyone seeking immigration assistance to verify the credentials of a representative and confirm they are authorized to provide their offered services before hiring them.

Members of the public can use the Law Society of Ontario’s online directory to verify a lawyer license and practicing status.
