Police have charged a Hamilton man following an investigation into more than $133,000 in fraudulent Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) payments.

In March 2026, officers received a referral from the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services following an investigation into suspected fraudulent benefit claims.

The investigation by the Ministry determined that a man provided inaccurate information over several years. This resulted in more than $133,000 in overpayments.

Hamilton police were able to determine there were grounds to lay criminal charges following a review of the Ministry’s findings.

As a result, on Oct. 22, Steven Andrew Christou was arrested and charged with Fraud Over $5,000.

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police at 905-546-4517 or mwilson@hamiltonpolice.ca.
