Hamilton police are warning the public of a new scam targeting seniors after receiving multiple reports over the past week.
Officers say the scam starts with the victim receiving a call from someone claiming to represent their phone or internet provider, offering the victim a discount they have supposedly earned.
Police say then the victim receives a second call, with the scammer claiming to be from their bank, telling them that their account has been compromised.
Lastly, the caller arranges for a courier to pick up the victim’s bank cards and convince them to share their PIN.
Officers remind the public to never share their PIN, passwords or banking information over the phone.

Residents are also advised to not assume a caller is legitimate just because they know their personal information. Someone’s information may have been obtained through a data breach, mail theft or other means.
Police say a bank will not send a courier to collect someone’s bank cards or PIN.
Officers remind residents to call their bank or service provider using a verified phone number or visiting a branch in person when in doubt.
Suspicious calls can also be reported to Hamilton police.
