Second suspect arrested in Niagara Falls homicide investigation

A second suspect has been charged with second-degree murder following the death of a man in Niagara Falls last week.

Niagara police charged Brandon Fitzgerald, 31, on Thursday in connection with an attack on 37-year-old Matthew McAra at a business in the area of Lundy’s Lane on Sept. 17.

Officers found McAra without vital signs. After life-saving efforts by Niagara paramedics, he was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. He died in hospital on Sept. 21.

Alexander Piccirillo, 46, was arrested the following day.

Fitzgerald and Piccirillo are now charged with second-degree murder.

Fitzgerald is in custody pending a bail hearing Friday at a courthouse in St. Catharines.

Detectives with the Niagara Regional Police Service Homicide Unit continue to investigate.
