Brantford doula fraudster Kaitlyn Braun resigns as social worker

A Brantford woman who faked pregnancies and stillbirths to receive doula services will never practice as a social worker again.

Court documents show Kaitlyn Braun has resigned from the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and surrendered her certificate of registration. 

Braun has agreed to never reapply to the college or to try to get her certificate reinstated. She also agreed to not practice social work in any jurisdiction. 

Additionally, Braun has been ordered to pay the college $5,000 within five years.

One of Braun’s victims says Thursday’s news provides her with a sense of relief.

“There’s a lot of relief personally in my work because social workers and doulas work together. But also validation that I myself never felt even through the court system,” Doula Maighen Stanley says.

In June of last year, a Hamilton court sentenced Braun to three more years in prison for defrauding caregivers, by falsely claiming she was pregnant.

In December 2023, she pleaded guilty to 21 charges including fraud, indecent acts and mischief.
