Fire Marshal investigates after costly Burlington house fire

The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating after a house fire in Burlington caused an estimated $300,000 in damages Monday morning.

The Burlington Fire Department responded to the blaze on Viking Crescent shortly after 4 a.m.

The department says the blaze originated in the basement and is suspected to have started after a mechanical failure.

Two people occupy the home. No injuries were reported.

The department is reminding the public to make escape plans in case of a fire, including installing a smoke detector.
