One suspect arrested, one wanted in Hamilton city vehicle theft

Hamilton police arrested one man and are seeking another after two city vehicles were stolen during a break-in at a city facility.

On July 22 at around 12:24 a.m., two people entered a City of Hamilton facility in central Hamilton and stole several sets of keys belonging to city fleet vehicles.

Officers say the suspects then left the area in a stolen city vehicle.

Detectives say within hours, one of the stolen vehicles was stopped by police in another jurisdiction for stunt driving and was seized. At the time of the traffic stop, the vehicle had not yet been reported stolen.

As the investigation progressed, police connected the vehicle to the break-in.

Officers say a second stolen city vehicle was later recovered by Hamilton police during an unrelated investigation. Both vehicles have since been returned to the city.

Investigators identified two men and warrants were issued for their arrest.

Mark McCombe, 55, was arrested in Toronto while attempting to board a flight leaving the country.

Brandon Poole, 35, is still wanted. Police believe the suspect has no fixed address but is often in the areas of Hamilton, Niagara and Burlington.

Police say both men are facing charges of break-and-enter to commit theft, disguise with intent and theft of a motor vehicle.
