Man charged with 1st-degree murder after woman found dead in Burlington apartment

Halton police have laid a first-degree murder charge against a 46-year-old man in connection with a homicide that happened in Burlington on Thursday.

Officers say at around 6:30 a.m., a woman’s family called them for a wellness check at 3020 Glencrest Rd., near Guelph Line and New Street, to see if she was okay.

Investigators say they went to the building and found a woman in her 40s dead, with no other people found inside the apartment.

They did not reveal any details regarding the woman’s identity, and when or how she died.

Niagara Regional Police say they had arrested the Burlington man at around 7:45 a.m., after he fled to the Niagara Falls area.

Detectives say the victim and suspect were known to each other. It is not clear if the suspect lived in the same apartment building where the victim was found dead.

There is no information on whether the suspect was previously known to police.

Officers say they are unable to identify the accused man due to a publication ban.

They have extended their condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
