What’s open and closed on Labour Day in Hamilton, Halton, Niagara regions

Residents of the Hamilton, Halton and Niagara regions should prepare for government offices, banks, LCBOs, Canada Post, most non-essential city services and retail stores to be closed for Labour Day.

Hamilton

Hamilton Civic Museums, Tropical Greenhouse at Gage Park, Hamilton Farmers’ Market, recreation centres, arenas and seniors centres will all be closed.

Most major grocery stores will be closed as well as shopping malls including Lime Ridge Mall and Eastgate Square.

Hamilton Public Library branches will be closed on both Sunday and Monday.

Outdoor pools will remain open for regular programming along with parks and conservation areas although some areas do require reservations.

Most Shoppers Drug Mart locations will remain open as well as some restaurants that are open on Mondays but it is best to call ahead.

Most movie theatres will also be open along with select Beer Store locations including 282 Parkdale Ave. North, 1111 Barton St. East, 959 Fennell Ave. East, 150 Barton St. East and 673 Upper James St.

Hamilton Street Railway (HSR) will be operating on a Sunday schedule with the last downtown departure around 12 a.m.

There will be no service on routes 12 Wentworth and 42 Mohawk East.

MyRide in Waterdown and Trans-Cab will operate on a Sunday schedule.

The Disabled and Aged Regional Transit System (DARTS) will be running on holiday service hours.

All subscription trips are cancelled except for dialysis. Users must book in advance if travel is needed on Monday.

On Monday, there will be no garbage or recycling collection. Instead, it will take place one day later for the rest of the week.

Halton

Most community centres, senior centres, pools, arenas and libraries will remain closed.

The Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, all indoor pools in Burlington, the Milton Mall, Burlington Centre, Mapleview Mall and Oakville Place will also be closed.

Local parks will remain open in addition to Burlington’s nine splash pads and outdoor pools.

Most Shoppers Drug Mart locations will remain open as well as some restaurants that are open on Mondays but it is best to call ahead.

Major grocery stores will be closed but smaller grocery stores such as Rabba Fine Foods will remain open.

The Wine Rack will remain open as well as select Beer Stores including 5051 New St. in Burlington and 236 Guelph St. in Georgetown from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Some Starbucks locations will remain open as well as major malls including the Toronto Premium Outlets and Bramalea City Centre.

Oakville Transit will run on a holiday schedule, operating from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Burlington Transit will also operate on a holiday schedule, running from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Milton Transit will not be running.

There will be no garbage or recycling collection on Monday. All waste collection will be one day later than usual.

Niagara

Most businesses in Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake will remain open, as both the city and the town are designated tourism destinations.

However, the other 10 municipalities in Niagara, including St. Catharines and Welland, will have select municipal facilities shut down.

All Beer Store locations will remain closed.

All Niagara Falls tourist attractions including Clifton Hill spots and outdoor parks will remain open.

Outlet Collection at Niagara and Canada One in Niagara Falls are open with reduced hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Most bars, restaurants and local craft breweries including Silversmith, Counterpart and Bench Brewing will remain open.

GO Transit will be operating on a Saturday schedule while transit services, including regional routes in St Catharines, Welland and Niagara Falls will operate on a holiday schedule.

There will be no changes to the curbside collection schedule due to the holiday.

However, Niagara Road 12 Landfill and Drop-off Depot in West Lincoln will be closed.

Bridge Street Drop-off Depot in Fort Erie, Humberstone Landfill and Drop-off Depot in Welland and Thorold Yard Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Depot in Thorold will remain open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
