Police charge Fort Erie man in connection with a shooting

Niagara police have charged a man from Fort Erie following a shooting investigation.

On Tuesday, officers responded to an Urgent Care Centre on Bertie Street in Fort Erie for a 54-year-old man who had been shot.

Investigators spoke with the victim and identified an address on Fox Road where the shooting took place. 

The Emergency Task Unit (ETU) was deployed to the home and a suspect was arrested without incident.

Frederick August, 62, has been charged with assault with a weapon, discharging a firearm with the intent to wound and possessing a firearm knowingly not holding a license.

August remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing on Tuesday at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.
