Evan Gold named general manager of the Hamilton Hammers

The New York Islanders announced on Monday that the club has hired Evan Gold as general manager of the Hamilton Hammers and assistant general manager for the Islanders.

Gold joins Mathieu Darche’s Hockey Operations staff and will be involved in contract negotiations, roster strategy, professional and amateur scouting, salary cap management and other areas in the club’s hockey operations that fit his expertise.

“Evan brings a rare combination of experience, intelligence and results to our Hockey Operations department,” said Mathieu Darche, Islanders general manager and executive vice president.

Darche said that over the past several years, Gold has excelled in nearly every area of building a successful franchise at the NHL and AHL levels. This includes contract negotiations and cap management as well as leading the Providence Bruins to the best record in the AHL this past season.

“His background, combined with his legal and business acumen, makes him an outstanding fit for our department as we continue building a team that competes on the island and in Hamilton,” Darche said.

Gold joins these two teams after 12 seasons with the Boston Bruins organization, where he most recently served as assistant general manager and general manager of its successful AHL affiliate.

The Toronto native brings experience in hockey operations, contract negotiations and salary cap management from his time with both Boston and the Washington Capitals.

Gold will work alongside current Assistant General Managers Ryan Bowness, Chris Lamoriello and Steve Pellegrini.
