Armed suspect faces charges after Brantford police dog tracks him down

An armed 41-year-old man is facing charges after Brantford police dog Mack tracked him down over the weekend.

On Sunday at 12:39 a.m., officers responded to the area of Mohawk Street and Morrison Road for a report of a weapons offence involving a man waving a knife at a security guard, who caught him trespassing on the property.

Investigators arrived on scene and received information that the suspect had fled on foot towards a dense wooded area nearby.

As a result, officers initiated a search led by Police Service Dog (PSD) Mack, a K-9 handler and members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) with support from patrol officers on containment to find the suspect.

Despite the rain, police dog Mack quickly located the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident.

Investigators say the Brantford man has been charged with two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and has a mandatory court date in October.
