Niagara police share photo of man wanted in Fort Erie shooting

Niagara police have released a photo of a 28-year-old man who is wanted in connection with a shooting in Fort Erie early Wednesday morning.

Officers say at around 1:30 a.m., a 27-year-old man was found suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body at a home on Niagara Boulevard between Bertie and Murray streets.

First responders treated the victim and transported him to an out-of-region hospital in stable condition.

Investigators say initial information was obtained that an altercation had taken place between the victim and the suspect outside of a home on Niagara Boulevard.

They say the incident escalated to a point where the suspect fired a firearm at the victim.

Detectives are looking for Samuel Sawyer of Fort Erie, who is currently wanted for several criminal offences, including aggravated assault, possessing a restricted or prohibited firearm while knowingly not holding a license, and for discharging a firearm with intent to wound.

Police suspect the shooting was targeted and are asking residents to remain vigilant.
