Hamilton Fire accepting donations to help communities in northern Ontario hit by wildfires

The Hamilton Fire Department is working with local social services organizations to raise donations to help people in Ontario’s northern communities affected by the ongoing wildfires.

The department is coordinating with the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre and the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto to collect items for people in the First Nations communities.

They are asking residents and members of the public to donate at any of the participating fire stations during their designated drop-off times.

Participating Fire Stations and the designated drop-off times:

From July 22 – 29, until 5:00 p.m.:

• Station 1 – 35 John St. North
• Station 2 – 1400 Upper Wellington Street
• Station 3 – 965 Garth Street
• Station 4 – 729 Upper Sherman Avenue
• Station 5 – 1227 Stone Church Rd. East
• Station 6 – 246 Wentworth St. North
• Station 7 – 225 Quigley Road
• Station 8 – 400 Melvin Avenue
• Station 9 – 125 Kenilworth Ave. North
• Station 10 -1455 Main St. West
• Station 11 – 24 Ray St. South
• Station 12 – 199 Highway 8 in Stoney Creek
• Station 17 – 363 Isaac Brock Drive in Stoney Creek
• Station 23 – 19 Memorial Square in Dundas
• Station 24 – 256 Parkside Drive in Waterdown

On Thursday July 23, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

• Station 15 – 415 Arvin Avenue in Stoney Creek
• Station 16 – 939 Barton Street in Stoney Creek

On Monday July 27, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.:

• Station 14 – 595 Chapel Hill Road in Elfrida
• Station 18 – 2636 Highway 56 in Binbrook
• Station 19 – 3303 Homestead Drive in Mount Hope
• Station 25 – 361 Old Brock Road in Greensville
• Station 26 – 119 Lynden Road in Lynden
• Station 27 – 795 Old Highway #8 in Rockton
• Station 28 – 1801 Brock Road in Freelton

They are asking for donations of: boiled water, non-perishable food, baby formula, baby food, toiletries and personal hygiene items, pet food and pet supplies, feminine hygiene products and new clothing of all sizes.

For health, safety and the dignity of the recipients, only new, unopened and unexpired items will be accepted.

Donations will be collected and safely stored before being transported to the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto for coordination and delivery to evacuees being supported in receiving communities.

Donations can also be dropped off at the Hamilton Regional Indian Centre at 34 Ottawa St. North.
