Local farmers donate over 1,500 kg of chicken to Hamilton Food Share

Hamilton officials celebrated Monday the donation of over 1,500 kilograms of locally grown chicken to the Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) food banks program.

Neil Lumsden, the MPP for Hamilton East-Stoney Creek, and Hamilton Mountain MPP Monica Ciriello were at Hamilton Food Share on Barton Street East to recognize the regular donations of chicken to the emergency food distribution hub.

Participating in the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks Program, the farmers were able to provide the equivalent of 14,000 meals worth of chicken to the Hamilton Food Share so far this year.

“Understanding that chicken farmers of Ontario understand the need, and talk about being great citizens and community involvement, and not just worrying about only their business, but everybody else in their sort of sphere, if you will,” said Lumsden. “The reach and the impact that they’re making with this donation is absolutely incredible.”

The food program aims to ensure food banks across Ontario have access to high-quality protein.

“I think it’s a prime example of the community coming together, different aspects of people that specialize in different things, being able to help out the community that they love, and this is a prime example of seeing that in action,” said Ciriello.
