The Caledonia community held a fundraising event Thursday evening for a young mother of two as she battles cancer.

Amanda George was diagnosed with a brain tumour in Jan. of last year and underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation.

While she was recovering, she also lost her mother to lymphoma.

Now, George has learned her cancer has spread and her family is exploring specialized treatment in the United States.

Unable to work, she and her partner, Josh, are facing growing medical and household expenses.

“These girls have put so much into fundraising and supporting us over the past week, week and a half or so. The support has been amazing,” George says.

“They have been working their regular jobs plus doing this at the same time and I never imagined it would become something like this and I’m forever grateful.”

In addition to Thursday’s in-person fundraising event, friends and family have launched an online fundraiser to help cover treatment, lost income and possible travel costs. This is intended to help George focus on her family and her recovery.

On GoFundMe, $18,700 has been raised so far, more than half way through the $30,000 goal.
