Halton police charge Brantford man after theft at Oakville aerospace company

A Brantford man is facing charges as part of an investigation into the theft of equipment and tools from an aerospace company in Oakville.

Halton police began an investigation last month after an aerospace company reported the theft of specialized millwright and aerospace equipment and tools.

Detectives say they were able to identify the responsible party as an employee of the company.

Officers say they found the stolen items were placed for sale allegedly by the accused on social media.

Investigators executed a search warrant at a Brantford home on June 30, where they took the accused into custody.

Police say they recovered around $250,000 worth of millwright and aerospace equipment and over $150,000 in Canadian currency during the search.

Detectives say they also found high value designer watches and sunglasses, which they believe to be connected to the proceeds of crime.

Officers have charged 30-year-old Abhishek Kumar Patel of Brantford with offences including theft over $5,000, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000 and for trafficking possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Patel has been held in custody pending a bail hearing in Milton.

The investigation remains ongoing, as police look to identify additional stolen property, and determine if further charges are warranted.
