The City of Hamilton announced on Friday that their City Manager Marnie Cluckie has accepted the position of chief administrative officer for the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Cluckie will continue serving the city until Sept. 22, working closely with the mayor, council and the senior leadership team to support a smooth transition.

She has been Hamilton’s city manager since Jan. 2024. Cluckie previously served as chief administrative officer for Niagara-on-the-Lake and held senior leadership positions within the regions of Halton, Niagara as well as the Halton Community Housing Corporation.

Shortly after Cluckie began her tenure, the city faced a major cybersecurity incident. She helped lead the organization’s recovery while advancing the Build Back Better program to strengthen systems, services and long-term organizational resilience.

In collaboration with the mayor, council, city staff and community partners, she also helped advance key priorities related to housing and homelessness, infrastructure renewal, customer experience and service modernization, economic development and major city-building partnerships.

“Serving the city where I was born and raised has been one of the greatest privileges of my career,” Cluckie said.

“This is an exciting opportunity for my family and me and I leave knowing the city is in exceptionally capable hands. I remain fully committed to supporting a seamless transition.”

“Leading a city as large and complex as Hamilton is no small responsibility and I appreciate Ms. Cluckie’s leadership and contributions to our community. We congratulate her on this exciting opportunity and wish her every success in the next chapter of her career,” Mayor Horwath said.

“Hamilton has a strong leadership team and committed staff who will ensure a smooth transition while maintaining the high-quality services our residents rely on every day. My focus remains on working hard to deliver for Hamiltonians and that work will continue,” Horwath said.

The city is planning a leadership transition and will share details on interim arrangements in the coming weeks. Senior staff continue to work with the mayor and council to ensure services remain uninterrupted.
