Rob Flack, minister of municipal affairs and housing announced a $4 million investment to build more homes in Brantford through the third round of the Building Faster Fund.

The Building Faster Fund was introduced in August as a three-year, up to $1.2 billion program that helps municipalities build more homes faster.

“I’ve travelled the province east, west, north and south and I’ve heard one consistent message, that it takes too long and that it costs too much to build housing in this province, and we’re changing that,” Flack says.

He says Brantford has exceeded their annual housing target by 61 per cent, which translates to about 1,600 new homes.

“For this great work you’re going to be rewarded with a cheque for $4 million to help build that critical infrastructure we need to get in the ground to build more homes faster, smarter and again more affordably,” Flack says.

“Brantford is experiencing remarkable growth, and we’re grateful to everyone who continues to contribute to the development and investment we are seeing across our community,” Mayor of Brantford Kevin Davis says.

As part of the up to $8.8 billion Canada-Ontario Partnership to Build, funding will be prioritized for municipalities that reduce and maintain reductions on development charges.

The agreement also supports the removal of the HST on new homes from April 1 of this year to March 31 of next year, which will save homebuyers up to $130,000 off the cost of a new home.
