VIDEO: Political analyst Lori Williams says she is struck by how Prime Minister Mark Carney has been able to make a tariff deal with China while also keeping Premier Doug Ford onside.
Carney must try to balance the competing interests of the provincial and territorial leaders as he huddles with them for talks in Ottawa as they try to present a “Team Canada” approach to the ongoing trade war with the Trump Administration.
Williams says since a large percentage of Canada’s trade is with the U.S., it will be difficult to offset losses if the country pursues better trade relations with big markets like China, India, or the EU.
