What’s closed Jan. 15 amid major winter storm in Hamilton, Halton and Niagara

Environment Canada says 15 to 35 centimetres of snow is expected to hit Hamilton, Halton and Niagara, as well as Brant, Haldimand and Norfolk counties, through Thursday afternoon. Here’s a list of what’s closed due to the winter storm:

Hamilton

  • Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board schools, adult education, school-based child care centres and administrative buildings;
  • Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board schools, adult education, school-based child care centres and administrative buildings;
  • Calvin Christian School‘s West 5th and Unity campuses;
  • Hillfield Strathallan College;
  • McMaster University is closed — All virtual and in-person classes, labs, studios and events are cancelled;
  • Mohawk College campuses are closed;
  • Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation schools and offices;
  • Six Nations of the Grand River offices, including the Family Health Team;
  • Hamilton Public Library branches will open at 12 p.m. Greensville Branch is closed; Extended Access available at 12 p.m. Bookmobile visits resume at 2 p.m.

  • YMCA full-day child care centres, before and after school child care programs, YMCA EarlyON locations, and YMCA Beyond the Bell programs are closed throughout Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford. YMCA Health, Fitness and Aquatics branches remain open;
  • City of Hamilton administrative offices and facilities are closed — the audit meeting will be held virtually;
  • DARTS will not be operating;
  • Victorian Order of Nurses – Hamilton – Meals on Wheels is cancelled;
  • All Dundas Community Services are cancelled;
  • Affiliated Services for Children and Youth (ASCY) offices and programs are closed;
  • Community Living Hamilton is closed. Group Living Residential remains open;
  • Lynwood Charlton Centre and community-based locations are closed;
  • The Choices Association Community participation programs are closed;
  • The Salvation Army Hamilton and Dundas Community Service Food Banks are closed;
  • Hamilton Boys and Girls Club;
  • Steelcity Medical Clinic;
  • Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts will be cancelling classes and its building will be closed;
  • Art Gallery of Hamilton is closed; and
  • The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

Halton Region

  • Halton District School Board schools and offices;
  • Halton Catholic District School Board schools and offices;
  • Trinity Christian School – Burlington;
  • Conestoga College — all campuses are closed;
  • OakHaven Academy for Diverse Learners;
  • Milton Community Resource Centre;
  • City recreation facilities reopened at 3 p.m.; and
  • Burlington Public Library is closed.

Niagara Region

  • District School Board of Niagara schools and administrative sites;
  • Niagara Catholic District School Board schools and offices;
  • Niagara College and Brock University campuses are closed;
  • Pathways Academy and Early Learning Centre;
  • Niagara Children’s Centre School Authority in St. Catharines;
  • Meals On Wheels Thorold-St. Catharines is cancelled; and
  • West Lincoln Community Centre is open, but some classes are impacted. Call 905-957-3346 to inquire.

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • Grand Erie District School Board schools, administrative buildings and child-care facilities;
  • Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board;
  • Community Support Centre Haldimand-Norfolk in Caledonia
  • Haldimand-Norfolk Community Senior Support Services — all Meals on Wheels, Transportation and Adult Day programs are cancelled; and
  • Haldimand Medical Clinic.

Brantford and Brant County

  • Grand Erie District School Board schools, administrative buildings and child-care facilities;
  • Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board;
  • Wilfrid Laurier University campuses and locations;
  • Conestoga College campuses;
  • Brant County customer services offices;
  • Brant County facilities and programs;
  • Brant County public libraries;
  • Brant Transit rides are cancelled; and
  • Brant County curbside trash collection will continue, but there will be delays and the Paris Transfer Station remains open.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and his ministers have cancelled public events Thursday due to the inclement weather.
