Hamilton police are investigating a shooting that happened Thursday morning on the Red Hill Valley Trail near Melvin Avenue east of Talbot Street.

Officers were called to the area at around 4 a.m. after getting reports of gunshots.

Investigators had reports from witnesses of loud bangs but no specific location.

Detectives say that upon arriving at the area, officers located multiple bullet casings on the foot path.

CHCH News has obtained video of the sound of the gunshots from a neighbour who has a doorbell camera (video courtesy of Harsh Rao).

Police say that as of 6:30 a.m., upwards of 20 casings were found, containing two different bullet types.

“To us, [the two different types of bullets] suggests that there may have been two separate weapons used. We are currently searching the area for evidence of the crime [such as], clothing articles, foot impressions, victims and injuries,” says Hamilton police’s Const. Trevor McKenna.
