Halton police have charged a civilian employee after they allegedly posed as a modeling scout online to get money and intimate images from their victims.
Police arrested 42-year-old Ken Mackenzie of Guelph Wednesday, and charged him with fraud of over $5,000, and obtaining property by deception.
Detectives say Mackenzie allegedly posed as a woman and modeling scout on Instagram under the username “@stephy_rk” and falsely promised to pay his victims, which police say he never did.
Investigators say that Mackenzie targeted adults, and believe that there may be more victims.
“The actions alleged in this investigation do not reflect the values of the service or the dedication of our officers and civilian members,” said Halton Region Police Service Chief, Stephen Tanner in a release. “The police service stands on a foundation of integrity and we hold all members — sworn and civilian alike — to the highest standards of professionalism and conduct.”
Mackenzie is scheduled to appear at a Milton courthouse Dec. 1.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Todd Martin, or Det. Jody Gregory with the Halton Police Service at 905-825-4777, ext. 8967.
