Hurricane Melissa made landfall as a category five hurricane in the western part of Jamaica early Tuesday morning.
Winds close to 297-kilometers per hour make it the strongest storm to ever hit the island nation.
It is also tied for second-strongest hurricane ever in the Atlantic.
Hurricane Melissa wreaked quite a havoc even before it made landfall.
It was responsible for seven deaths and the loss of power for over 240-thousand people. The extent of its damages has not yet been assessed but Jamaica says it will need foreign assistance for full recovery.
Cuba is expected to face Melissa’s wrath next. She’s expected to make landfall overnight Tuesday as either a category four or a category three.
She will then move through the Bahamas and Turks and Caicos bringing with her heavy storm surge, and ferocious winds.
