Stephen Miller’s ‘complete power’ comment in CNN interview sparks controversy

White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller is raising eyebrows online for his claim about President Donald Trump’s “plenary authority” or “complete power” in an awkward, viral interview with CNN.

When asked about whether Trump’s administration would abide by a ruling that temporarily blocks the use of National Guard troops in Oregon, Miller mentioned the idea of plenary power and then stopped talking altogether.

Immediately after suggesting Trump wielded complete authority when it comes to deploying the troops, Miller appeared to be cut off. When the interview returned after commercial, the term never came up again.

The White House aide did note though that the administration was appealing the ruling in Oregon.

President Trump has also suggested invoking The Insurrection Act to bypass certain court rulings and local objections in the cities he’s deploying the National Guard to.
