Marine commerce leaders to issue urgent call to upgrade St. Lawrence Seaway

There is an urgent call to enhance the St. Lawrence and Great Lakes Waterway’s trade contributions.

The waterway is a vital trade artery between Canada and the United States.

Nearly 100 leaders, including the heads of ports, rail companies, and shipping operators, are pleading with the government to improve infrastructure along the waterway.

They want to strengthen the maritime and ship-building industry, which connects hundreds of millions of consumers with manufacturing hubs, on both sides of the border.

CHCH News anchor Taz Boga spoke with Maguessa Morel-Laforce, the Director of Government and Stakeholder Relations at the Chamber of Marine Commerce, who said this will allow the industry to become more efficient, carry more goods using less energy, and remain competitive in an evolving world.

A joint declaration will be presented at the leadership summit of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors & Premiers in Quebec City this weekend.
