Woman dead, man hospitalized after fatal crash in Wainfleet

A woman was killed and a man was sent to hospital in serious condition following a single-vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon in the Township of Wainfleet.
Niagara police say at around 4:25 p.m. a vehicle had crashed on Burnaby Road between Highway 3 and Lakeshore Road.
Officers found a heavily-damaged black 2017 Kia Sportage SUV overturned in a ditch on the east-side of the road.
A man and a woman were trapped inside the vehicle.
Witnesses told investigators that the SUV was travelling northbound on Burnaby Road at a high speed when it lost control.
The driver of the SUV was a 67-year-old man from Wainfleet, who was airlifted to an out-of-town hospital in serious condition.
The 67-year-old woman who was the passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
Niagara police’s collision reconstruction and forensic services units are investigating.
