Environment Canada issues special air quality statement for southern Ontario

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for parts of Halton, Hamilton, Niagara and Brant Regions due to wildfire smoke from the Prairies.

The regions are considered “high-risk” on Thursday due to the smoke and have an air quality index of seven.

Areas under the advisory include:

  • Hamilton
  • Burlington
  • Oakville
  • Milton
  • Brantford
  • St. Catharines

The weather agency says air quality and visibility can change from hour to hour, and the air quality is expected to improve from north to south during the day Thursday.

Environment Canada advises limiting time outdoors and postponing or reducing outdoor sports, activities and events.

The air quality risk-level can be monitored on the Environment Canada website.

This as the heat warning for the areas has ended.
