13-year-old Hamilton girl drowns in Stratford conservation area

Stratford police say a 13-year-old girl from Hamilton has died following a drowning incident at Wildwood Conservation Area.

Officers say they were called to the park around 7 p.m. on Sunday, after the girl was reported lost in the water.

Emergency crews started a search of the area, which lasted around an hour before she was found under the water within a designated swimming area. Life-saving efforts were made, but first responders were unable to revive her.

Investigators have identified her as a resident of Hamilton who was visiting the area with family.

Police issued a statement on Monday expressing their condolences to the family, friends and loved ones who have been impacted.
