Ottawa announces re-opening of the Affordable Housing Innovation Fund

The Government of Canada has announced the re-opening of the Affordable Housing Innovation Fund (AHIF) – a joint initiative between the federal government and the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) that funds the construction of affordable housing projects.

The online portal is open and accepting applications.

Priority will be given to applications that plan to use scalable modular and prefabricated buildings in order to address homelessness.

Modular and prefabricated buildings have significantly shorter construction times, allowing builders to deliver homes quickly.

Additional prioritization will be given to communities that have submitted Community Encampment Response plans through the Unsheltered Homelessness and Encampment Initiative.

Previous AHIF applicants with demonstrated experience in developing solutions to address homelessness will also be shown preference.
