Carbon monoxide kills two

The ice storm has claimed at least two lives after a gas generator was left running inside a garage to power a home without electricity.

A 52-year-old man and his 72-year-old mother died in Newcastle in the Durham region after carbon monoxide seeped into their home yesterday afternoon.

Police are warning everyone of the dangers of running gas generators or barbecues inside.

In Quebec, authorities say three people have died from what is believed to be carbon monoxide poisoning. A heating system was found in the chalet where two men and a woman were staying. Police say it’s highly possible that a gas leak led to their deaths.

Toronto fire officials now say that last night alone they had more than 100 calls for carbon monoxide issues, and at least 11 people had to be taken to hospital.
