Gambling ring busted

Six people were arrested during the raid at this “gaming house” Sunday night, and more than $2 million seized.

Police describe it as an invitation-only gambling event at Le Parc Banquet Hall in Markham, run by organized crime groups. More than 2,000 people were inside the hall at the time. Police say this was the largest investigation of its kind targeting organized crime and gaming.
400 officers were involved in the raids; both at the banquet hall and at nine businesses and homes associated with the six people arrested, some as far away as London, Ontario.
In connection with this bust, police say they were able to shut down an offshore gaming website called Platinum Sportsbook that’s been in business for several years.
Superintendent Paul Pedersen said:
Last night, almost 2.5 million in cash was seized in execution of these various search warrants as well as 20 computers from within Le Parc were seized where online gaming, offshore online gaming was taking place along with cell phone and business records. The people found inside gaming house were dispersed while those profiting were arrested.
