Ryan Russell murder trial

The trial of a man accused of driving a stolen snowplow that killed a Toronto police sergeant started Monday.

Richard Kachkar, who’s from St. Catharines, is charged with first-degree murder and dangerous driving. he’s pleaded not guilty. 35 year old Sergeant Ryan Russell was killed after he was hit trying to stop a snow plow during a police chase through city streets in January of 2011. A jury was selected in last month, but because of scheduling issues, the trial wasn’t set to start with opening statements until Monday.
