Hamilton murder victim identified

A Hamilton man has been identified as the victim of the city’s sixth homicide of the year.

Shaun McCann, 27, was found bleeding profusely from the neck on Thursday near Blake Street and Maplewood Avenue, after a supposed fight at an apartment on Blake Street.

Hamilton Police have arrested 35-year-old Steven Corbett and charged him with second-degree murder.

The murder happened in the early afternoon of Thursday, shortly after local school kids began returning home and witnessed the gruesome scene.

Corbett turned himself in to authorities just after midnight Friday.

Neighbours say Corbett and McCann were friends and roommates for at least the last few weeks. They say they had never heard fighting before this and mentioned a little girl occasionally stayed with them, allegedly Corbett’s daughter.

Corbett will appear in court on December 14.
