Man charged after 4-hour Hamilton standoff

Police have now released the name of a man charged in connection with a four-hour standoff in Hamilton.

Robert Pleszkan, 35, of Hamilton has been charged with forcible confinement, assault with a weapon and breach of probation.

The standoff happened at an apartment on Hess St., near Hunter St., on Friday night.

Officers got a call that a man armed with several knives had barricaded a woman and himself inside. He allegedly threatened to set the woman on fire with an aerosol can. At one point, an air conditioner was tossed from a window.

Police helped the woman escape but it took several more hours before the man surrendered.
