Oakville boat explosion

A boat exploded in the Oakville harbour on Saturday, sending three people to hospital and causing about $60,000 worth of property damage.

The explosion happened around 3:30 pm at the Oakville Power Boat Club fueling station.

Of the three people injured in the blast, a 53-year-old woman remains in the Hamilton General Hospital in serious but stable condition. Her husband was treated and released. The owner of the boat remains at the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, but is expected to be okay.

Halton Police, an environmental emergency response team and an Ontario fire marshal investigator were in Oakville Sunday assessing the damage.

Fire Marshal investigator Mike Ross says it’s still too early to determine what caused the explosion.

Though property damage is estimated at about $60,000, the cost of the environmental clean-up is still to be determined.
