Burlington cancer walk raises $100K

Over 500 people gathered Sunday in Burlington for the second annual Ovarian Cancer Walk of Hope.

Some walked and others ran around Nelson Park.

Even though this is only the second time the walk has taken place in Burlington, they managed to raise over $100,000 dollars for ovarian cancer research.

Like many of the people taking part, Tanya Rocca lost a loved one to the disease.

“We are doing this run for our mother Joan Rocca, who we lost to Ovarian Cancer 2 years ago. She fought the disease for 5 years.”

Since 2002 the walks have raised over $10 million across Canada.

Money raised will go towards research to develop an early detection screening test, improved treatments and ultimately increase survival rates.
