Arrest in string of Robberies

Being in the right place at he right time has resulted in an arrest related to a string of robberies in St Catharines.

On Tuesday, Niagara Region police were conducting surveillance on a Subway restaurant on Lake Street that had been robbed previously.

While watching the restaurant, a robbery occurred at the Esso gas station on the corner of Lake Street and Scott Street, right next door to the Subway that was being watched.

Officers arrested a male and the money stolen in this robbery was recovered.

This led District Detectives to determine that this same man may have committed three previous robberies at that Subway on Lake Street in addition to the robbery at the Esso.

Charged with four counts of robbery is 38-year-old John Frederick Potts of St. Catharines.

Potts was held in custody and was scheduled to appear at a bail hearing on Wednesday.
