3 Hamilton residents charged in armed carjacking in Burlington

Police have released the identities of three people charged in connection with a stolen vehicle investigation and an armed carjacking in Burlington early Wednesday morning.

Halton police received a report around 7:10 a.m. of a Ford Explorer that had been stolen from a driveway in the area of Burloak Drive and Sutton Drive.

Officers say the Ford Explorer and another stolen Ford F-150 were seen together driving near Appleby Line. Police pursued the vehicles but it quickly came to an end due to public safety.

Five minutes later, police were called to the intersection of Guelph Line and Upper Middle Road after the two stolen vehicles collided.

But before officers arrived, one suspect with a knife punched the driver of a nearby silver Volkswagen Jetta and stole the vehicle.

The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Five suspects attempted to flee the scene, however, three of them ended up in custody.

Investigators are continuing to search for the two outstanding suspects and the stolen Volkswagen Jetta.

On Thursday, police say they charged three Hamilton residents in connection with this investigation.

Scott Guitar, 34, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failing to comply with a probation order.

Police charged 36-year-old William Hannah with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order.

Shane Martin, 48, has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle and possession of property obtained by crime.

All three accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
