(Updated) A body has been recovered from Lake Erie off Crystal Beach, hours after a search resumed for a missing swimmer.

A man in his 20s had not been seen since yesterday afternoon, when the raft he and his friends were floating on overturned. Just after 11 o’clock this morning, the body of a 21 year old man from Caledon was found.

Constable Phil Gavin of Niagara Regional Police told CHCH News the man was not wearing a lifejacket when he went out. “The waves were two to four feet and he went under the surface of the water and never resurfaced at that point.”

There is no word yet whether alcohol was involved.

The man’s family was there as his body was brought ashore.

CHCH’s Kate Carnegie will have more on this story tonight on the Evening News at 6.
