75 year-old women dead after being found unresponsive at Sunset Beach

Niagara Police say a 75 year-old St. Catharines women is dead after she was found unresponsive in the water at Sunset beach yesterday.

Officers arrived to Sunset Beach on Lombardy Avenue around 3:50 pm. Members of the public called police after finding the women just off the beach.

By-standers and crews performed life-saving efforts before the women was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. She later died in hospital.

After investigating police say there is reason to believe the women suffered a medical event just before entering the water. Police say foul play is not suspected.

The coroner is continuing to investigate the incident.
