Halton police are searching for an 80 year-old boater named Robert Wyles after he went missing yesterday evening.
Shortly after 6 p.m. marine officers were in the area of 16 Mile Creek and Lake Ontario helping a boater while a storm was moving through the area. Around that time they noticed another boat drifting through the water. After boarding the vessel they discovered that there were no occupants on board.
A police investigation revealed that the boat was bought earlier that day and an experienced operator was seen boarding and leaving Bronte Harbour alone around 12:30 p.m.
A search and rescue was initiated immediately and crews have been on seen through the night. Crews also searched along the shores of Lake Ontario from 16 Mile Creek Area (Trafalgar Road) to Bronte Harbor (Burloak Drive).
Homeowners in the area can expect to see rescuers using flares to enhance visibility during the search at night.
Halton Police are asking residents with shoreline property in the area to check for the missing boater.
