West Lincoln Mayor Dave Bylsma receives reprimand for radio comments

First Published:

Niagara Regional Council has voted to reprimand West Lincoln Mayor Dave Bylsma for comments he made on the radio.

Last June, Bylsma was interviewed to talk about why West Lincoln was the only municipality in Niagara not flying the Pride flag.

In that interview, he said he didn’t understand what marginalized groups were still fighting for.

Complaints were made to the integrity commissioner, whose investigation found Bylsma broke the code of conduct three times. The report recommended Bylsma be reprimanded.

He received his reprimand Thursday night but did not apologize for his comments. He did say he feels “marginalized” as a Christian often because he is firm in his beliefs.

Our Matt Ingram will have more on this at 6 p.m.
