VIDEO: Following months of pressure from the public and from within his own party, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced he’ll resign by September. In an emotional speech outside 10 Downing Street Monday, Starmer told reporters every decision he’s taken “has been about putting the country I love first,” which is why he is choosing to step down as leader of the Labour Party. The decision now sets the U.K. up for its seventh prime minister in just ten years. Britain’s economy has been stuck in neutral and the Labour Party’s popularity has slumped in opinion polls. All eyes are now on Greater Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham, who is expected to launch a bid for the party’s leadership.
