VIDEO: For many, Don Cherry is one of the biggest names in hockey history. A legendary broadcaster whose career spanned multiple decades as the face of Hockey-Night-In-Canada. For all those who champion his legacy, there are many who admonish it for the many years of polarizing comments he made over the air and a recent push from several Conservative heavy weights has reignited the drama. Earlier this month, a Tory MP from the London region nominated Cherry for the Order of Canada, a Canadian honour that recognizes outstanding achievement and service to the nation. Not long after, several others on the right endorsed the idea, but critics say the move goes against the ethos of the award and is using Cherry’s image as a scape-goat, in what many have come to know as the culture war.
